Mike Lawless

Mike Lawless has spent 40 years as an architect specialising in the design of sports, culture and leisure buildings together with those including health and wellbeing.

He has been an expert witness when they go wrong but spends most of his time designing, listening, and developing ideas to make them good, functional and creative facilities. His work spans the UK, from Scotland to Cornwall, West Wales to East Anglia. He has designed in Europe and has advised Olympic Governing Bodies as well as small clubs and charities in remote parts of the UK. He is a Director of LA architects, a Company that he jointly formed in 1992. Whether it was to design the Guildford Spectrum, that has 2 million visitors every year since 1992, or the small community pool in a small village, there is the same philosophy; “the person, whoever that is, comes first. If that person, whether visitor or staff, is inspired by and enjoys being within our work, then we are perhaps starting to be successful.”
